As a new parent, we know you have enough on your mind without worrying about how your dog will react to your new baby. That’s why we created the Cribs and Canines dog training program, a specialized training program that helps your dog adjust to sharing the spotlight and having a new baby in the home.
Before your baby is born, our certified professional dog trainers will work to eliminate any obedience problems, such as jumping (especially on pregnant mom or baby!), nipping, snatching, destructive habits, or aggressive play. We’ll also work to make the dog comfortable with baby-specific situations, such as heeling alongside a stroller, a baby’s presence, behaving nicely while your attention is focused on the baby, and being gentle with the baby. After your bring the baby home, we’ll go over creating a safe space between the dog and baby using baby gates, crate training and other tools.
This program is ideal for newborn babies, infants and toddlers! Safety is our number one goal with the Cribs and Canines programs.
Prepare your Dog Before the Baby Arrives
Not only does our Cribs and Canines program set your dog up for success, it also helps you learn how to create a consistent environment for your dog and maintain it long after baby comes home. We help you introduce your dog to the new baby and baby sounds and smells. Having a baby in the house brings lots of changes to everypone, even your dog.
Your dog may struggle with the new changes, but we’ll show you how to reward your dog and help your dog get used to this new dynamic.
Babies and Dogs: Teach Your Dog Boundaries and Safe Spaces
Here at Monument Dog Training we strongly believe in safe spaces and boundaries when you introduce a baby or child to the home. We always want dog owners to allow your dog time and space away from the baby. Life with a baby can be hard on dogs and they need to have a calm and quiet space among the chaos.
When your baby starts to crawl this becomes even more crucial. We NEVER recommend leaving a dog alone around babies or children. It’s can be dangerous for both the dog and the children.
